Hello friends!
It feels a little bit like a slow week again! Apart from Cambodia and Asean Iβve heard virtually nothing from the Mekong states, which is very unusual. Iβm always on the look out for hot tips on new publications and fantastic journalists/content creators/funny-take-havers, particularly from that part of the region, so if you think thereβs someone out there deserving of more attention β let me know, please!
Word of mouth (hey, thatβs the name of the show!) is the number one way I find important news and the brilliant people behind it. This month, the region lost one of those brilliant people with the sudden passing of Marc Lourdes, the genius behind many things, including Between the Lines. Many friends and colleagues who knew him well have written deeply moving eulogies which I would encourage everyone to read.Β
Marc always championed new work from the region and the best way to commemorate his passing is to do it too. Between the Lines is one of my must-reads and if it werenβt for its guiding hand (and brilliant wit) the politics of Malaysia would be that much murkier. Subscribe to Between the Lines today, support emerging writers and creatives in the region and β this is one of the biggest lessons β make everyone your pal!Β Β
See you next week,
Erin Cook

Two very happy punters popped the televised gay kiss cherry for the city in the background of a Channel News Asia live cross to China. While it sparked controversy for some, including broadcasting legislation, I think itβs a beautiful βlol you thoughtβ to Samsung.
